Crystallization Lab
Our highly automated protein crystallization lab allows us to rapidly process large number of samples through our gene-to-structure pipeline in parallel. We can take a novel protein which has been generated by our protein purification lab, put it through a screen of hundreds of different crystallization conditions, find a crystal target, and then rapidly optimize the crystal for diffraction quality. Two key resources contribute to this high throughput system: our full-service protein and crystallography products lab and the award-winning instrumentation platform being used throughout our lab. Our dedicated staff runs a 7-days a week operation for crystallization, optimization, and X-ray diffraction, allowing us to deliver your high quality crystallographic structures as rapidly as possible.

MicroCapillary Protein Crystallization SystemThe Microcapillary Protein Crystallization System™ (MPCS™) PlugMaker allows us to rapidly perform preliminary screening with nanovolumes of protein. Using this instrument, Emerald can generate up to 800 crystallization experiments with up to 24 different conditions and a wide range of concentrations.

X-ray Diffraction SystemOur complete Rigaku X-ray diffraction system is one of the most powerful X-ray diffraction data collection systems available. This in-house data collection capability is one of the reasons Emerald was the top contributor of new protein structures to the PDB in 2011. Our set up, complete with a total of 4 end stations, has two fully automated stations that allow for 24-7 data collection. The dedicated staff members of our crystallization lab ensure the careful handling of all samples and keep a steady supply of diffraction ready crystals moving through our automated x-ray diffraction instrument suite. |
