Crystallization Lab

Our highly automated crystallization lab allows us to keep projects moving rapidly through the gene-to-structure pipeline. Often, within a day, we can take a novel protein, put it through a large number of different screens, find a crystal target, and rapidly create optimization screens. Two resources contribute to this high throughput system: the full-service lab of our sister company Emerald BioSystems, and the award-winning Microcapillary Protein Crystallization System™ (MPCS™) instrument. Our dedicated staff working in all areas of crystallization, optimization, and x-ray diffraction keep our projects moving ahead rapidly.

 

 

MicroCapillary Protein Crystallization System

The Microcapillary Protein Crystallization System™ (MPCS™) allows us to rapily perform preliminary screening with nanovolumes of protein. Emerald can generate up to 800 sparse matrix or optimization experiments with up to 24 different conditions and a wide range of concentrations.

 

 

Emerald BioSystems

Our sister company, Emerald BioSystems, provides us with an unlimited range of high-quality crystallization screens and conditions with a very short turnaround time. Emerald BioSystems is a leading provider of sophisticated laboratory automation and consumable products for gene to protein crystal structure research, and is best known for the Wizard line of random sparse matrices.

X-ray Diffraction System

Our complete Rigaku x-ray diffraction system is one of the most powerful X-ray diffraction data collection systems available, allowing us to efficiently determine X-ray protein crystal structures of 75 to 100 new infectious diseases annually as well as a large number of structures for our private clients.
